Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has donated ₦300 million to support victims of the devastating flood in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, which left over 200 people dead and displaced thousands.
Zulum made the donation during a condolence visit to Governor Umaru Bago at the Government House in Minna on Tuesday.
He led a delegation from Borno State to express solidarity with the people and government of Niger following the humanitarian disaster.
The Borno governor described the donation as a gesture to complement Niger State’s response efforts and provide some relief to the communities grappling with the aftermath of the floods, which destroyed homes, farmlands, and livelihoods.
“This disaster is a clear reminder of the urgent need for collective action, especially at the subnational level, to address the worsening impact of climate change,” Zulum said.
He further called on the Federal Government to put in place a comprehensive mechanism that addresses recurring floods and other environmental emergencies nationwide.

In his response, Governor Umaru Bago thanked Zulum for the generous support, calling it “a timely intervention and a strong expression of true leadership and brotherhood.”
“This kind of solidarity gives us hope and strength to push forward in the face of adversity,” Bago said, pledging that the ₦300 million donation would be channelled towards relief, rehabilitation, and public awareness efforts in flood-affected areas.
Bago also stressed the need for community sensitization, especially in coastal and flood-prone areas, to prevent further tragedies.
The visit and donation come amid growing calls for stronger federal intervention and climate resilience strategies as extreme weather conditions continue to wreak havoc in various parts of Nigeria.
