Yeni Kuti, PDP’s Sowunmi Trade Words on National TV Over Tinubu

Tensions flared live on air as Your View host Yeni Kuti and PDP stalwart Segun Sowunmi locked horns over his recent visit to President Tinubu.

Sowunmi, a prominent critic of Tinubu and former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 elections, had over the weekend paid a surprise visit to the president at his Lagos residence a move that stirred backlash online.

The heat followed him to TVC on Tuesday, where he appeared as a guest. But things quickly got uncomfortable when Yeni Kuti, one of the show’s co-hosts, asked: “When are you moving to the APC?

Her direct question was: “You’ve had a lot of criticism for the president, now your tune seems to have changed (after visit). So when is your own move? When are you leaving the PDP to join APC?”

Clearly displeased, Sowunmi fired back, “Although I cannot see who is asking those questions, I didn’t come to your programme so you can try to be cheeky with me, stop that.”

Yeni Kuti wasn’t having it. She countered, “I can’t be cheeky with you because I’m sure that I’m older than you.”

Realizing the mood had shifted, Sowunmi tried to walk it back, “Oh sister oo! My Aunty! I take that back. Please don’t be angry.”

But Kuti clapped back without blinking: “I’m not your aunty.”

The clash left viewers stunned and made it clear that political questions, even in studio, can get personal real fast.
