Wike’s Remarks an Abomination — Bode George Fires Back

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has blasted Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his recent claim that the PDP did not shape his political career.

Describing Wike’s remarks as a “disgusting abomination,” George said the former Rivers State governor’s statement was not only ungrateful but deeply insulting to the party that built his political foundation.

Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, George likened the PDP to an “iroko tree”—strong and enduring—adding that the party had weathered many storms and continues to stand firm.

“The comment of the young man (Wike), because he is the same age as my first son, to me it’s a disgusting abomination,” George said.

The PDP elder statesman urged Wike to reflect on the fleeting nature of political power, quoting Shakespeare’s Macbeth:

“Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more.”

George said the PDP played a key role in Wike’s political rise, from his early political appointments to his emergence as a two-term governor of Rivers State. He dismissed Wike’s suggestion that individual capacity outweighed party structure.

“You are now saying that it is the individual that has the capacity? But my young man, look, if you see any ballot box, did you see the names of any individuals written on the ballot papers?” George asked.

He emphasised that the PDP is a collective institution, unlike parties he accused of being owned by individuals.

“Our party is not like APC, owned by an individual. Our party was established with rules and regulations. There’s no individual who owns this party (PDP). We own the party, we own the assets and the liabilities.”

George added that when party members begin to deviate, it is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees to restore order and discipline.

“I don’t want to waste my time talking about Wike. I want to talk about the future of our party, the strength of our party, and the need to convince Nigerians that this party is in a much better position to handle the problems plaguing this nation.

“We have the records. We have the capacity to deliver the goods to the people of Nigeria.”
