UPDATE: One Dead, Nine Rescued in Ikorodu Building Collapse — LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) has confirmed that one person has died while nine others were rescued following the collapse of a two-storey building under construction at Otta-Ona Junction, opposite Mobil Filling Station in Ikorodu.

The incident, which occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, drew a swift response from emergency personnel. According to Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, the agency received a distress alert at 2:02 p.m. and promptly activated its emergency response plan.

“Teams from Agbowa and Alausa were deployed, and on arrival at 2:40 p.m., it was discovered that a two-storey building had collapsed, trapping three persons under the rubble,” he stated.

Nine adult males were rescued and treated on-site by the LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit. Unfortunately, one fatality was recorded as rescue operations continued.

Search and rescue efforts were led by LASEMA’s Tiger and Lion Response Teams, supported by heavy-duty equipment including an excavator. The area was secured to prevent secondary incidents.

Other agencies involved in the ongoing operation include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Police, and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
