Ex-militants at the weekend called on security agencies to launch an investigation to unmask group of persons calling for the removal of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio and threatening to blow up oil installations.

The ex-militants under the auspices of the 21st Century Youths of the Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience said they were miffed by the naivety of the faceless groups, which issued threats to the nation, Senator Akpabio and the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Leader of CYNDAC, Izon Ebi, said it was counterproductive for all manners of militant groups to be clamouring for the sacking of the minister and dissolution of the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC without any concrete reason or alternative solution to move the Niger Delta region forward.

He said, “It is worthy to note that it is only recently that there has been traction on the ministry of Niger Delta affairs through the remobilization to site to complete the east west road and the gradual movement of the NDDC to its permanent abode after paying humongous amounts of rent to the faceless landlords.

“The continued activities of these faceless groups that have not contributed anything to the struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta and its people is worrisome and totally unacceptable to well-meaning people of the region and Nigerians in general.

“This anti-Akpabio paid militants sponsored by failed Niger Delta politicians, both in the ruling and opposition parties who are afraid of the forensic audit of the commission are leaving no stone unturned to truncate the positive stride and momentum of the minister and the commission.

“We the 21st century youths (21st CYNDAC) use this medium to urge the relevant security agencies to live up to its responsibilities by checking the activities of these miscreants who have threatened to kidnap and blow up oil infrastructures in the region.

“It should be of note to these miscreants that kidnapping and blowing up of oil pipelines is not a solution to the plight of the region as various representations have been done to the government, regarding the plight of the region by well-meaning organizations like the Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF).

“If their agitations are genuine, they should join credible organizations to seek redress, and not threaten the region and the nation. Let it be known to them that no form of criminal activities can be legitimized under any form of negative agitations. We implore every well-meaning Niger Deltans to join hands and positively move the region forward.

“The people of the Niger Delta region should be vigilant to the eminent threat posed by these miscreants who have never contributed an iota towards the upliftment of the region.

“These same miscreants were responsible for the truncating of the east west road project through the kidnapping of the expatriates of Julius Berger that were working on the project. They and their political sponsors also tried to cut short the maritime university at Akerenkoko and kidnapping of workers in the oil and gas industry.”
