The British High Commission in Nigeria has addressed swirling media reports that pinned a British Army officer to an alleged arms trafficking ring busted in Delta State by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Amid public speculation and headlines, the Commission stepped forward to set the record straight: the individual in question is not part of the UK Armed Forces.
In a statement released on the 29th of April, 2025, a spokesperson clarified:
“The individual identified in recent Nigerian media reporting is not a serving member of the UK Armed Forces.”
Digging deeper, the Commission disclosed that the person once held a junior role in the UK Armed Forces Reserves but was never commissioned and has long since left service.

Citing legal and privacy restrictions governed by the UK’s Data Protection Act and common law, the Commission declined to share further personal information.
It also called on media outlets to represent the facts clearly, urging responsible and accurate coverage when dealing with issues that carry national and international weight.
Reporters with additional questions on UK personnel were advised to direct their queries to the British High Commission’s Press and Public Affairs team.
