Bello Turji, a name that strikes fear in many parts of northern Nigeria, is now on the run. The Defence Ministry says he is fleeing as a result of heavy offensives by the Armed Forces in recent weeks.
Minister of Defence Muhammed Badaru shared this update during a briefing in Abuja, on the 7th of May, 2025.
He confirmed that troops have killed at least 11 top terrorist leaders in recent operations.
Those eliminated include Maza Barume Madaro, Kachalla Alhaji Dati, Bani Wala Burki, Kachalla Dogo Kwaden, Chairman Hanazuma, Kachalla Bandiyo, Maiyara Madaci, Alhaji Karki, Kachalla Makore, Zakiru and Okachalla Azarailu.
“These bandit leaders are falling daily. They are on the run,” Badaru said.

He noted a fresh push in military operations, especially in the Northeast, that is turning the tide.
Terror groups may be fighting back in desperation, but troops are responding with overwhelming force.
The Minister said military intelligence efforts are also being stepped up to detect and prevent attacks early.
He traced Nigeria’s security problems to years of deep-rooted political and social divides, weak border control, and the evolving face of global terrorism.
