Tensions are mounting behind the scenes as US President Donald Trump grows more dissatisfied with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky over the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed the president’s rising frustration during a briefing with reporters on the 28th of April, 2025.
Leavitt explained that Trump has been pushing for an enduring halt to the war ever since Putin introduced a limited three-day pause in fighting back in May. She told reporters, “He thinks that he is increasingly frustrated with the leaders of both countries.”

According to Leavitt, Trump’s stance is firm: “He wants to see a permanent ceasefire. I understand Vladimir Putin this morning offered a temporary ceasefire.”
Leavitt went on to highlight Trump’s broader goal, stating, “The president has made it clear he wants to see a permanent ceasefire first to stop the killing, stop the bloodshed and while he remains optimistic he can strike a deal, he is also being realistic as well and both leaders need to come to the table to negotiate their way out of this.”
This development follows Putin’s move to announce a temporary truce, timed to honor the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
