Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the Group C draw placed the team alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Speaking about the draw, Troost-Ekong emphasized the team’s readiness and determination to surpass their performance at the previous tournament in Côte d’Ivoire, where they finished as runners-up.
“We’re ready to go one step further!” The captain declared. “With the experience we’ve gained and the hunger within the squad, we’re prepared to fight for the title. It’s an exciting group, and we respect our opponents, but our focus is on reclaiming the continental crown for Nigeria.”
The Super Eagles, under the guidance of coach Augustine Eguavoen, have been in fine form, and the team boasts a mix of experienced players and young talents ready to make their mark on Africa’s biggest football stage.
Nigeria last lifted the AFCON trophy in 2013 and is aiming to end the 12-year drought by securing their fourth title.
The group stage is set to test the Super Eagles’ mettle, especially against Tunisia, a familiar rival with a strong footballing pedigree.
The tournament in Morocco promises to be thrilling, and fans are hopeful the Super Eagles will deliver a performance worthy of their rich football heritage.
