Troops Kill 60 Boko Haram Terrorists in Borno Airstrike

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed at least 60 Boko Haram terrorists during a coordinated land and air offensive in Bita, Borno State, in what military sources are calling one of the most decisive blows against insurgents in recent months.

The assault, which began around 1:09 a.m. on Friday, May 30, was launched after terrorists attacked troops under the 26 Task Force Brigade of Sector One.

According to field reports obtained by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the troops responded with immediate reinforcement from the air, leading to a firefight that lasted until about 3:23 a.m.

“The battle is still ongoing with follow-up strikes targeting retreating terrorist groups. Additional two gun trucks have been confirmed destroyed as air platforms re-engaged the fleeing insurgents,” a military source told Zagazola.

Air support included A-29 Super Tucano jets and the Dragon platform, which carried out real-time surveillance and precision bombing of enemy positions.

The airstrikes played a critical role in neutralising the insurgents and disrupting their movement.

At least two enemy gun trucks were destroyed in the initial phase of the operation. Ground forces have also launched exploitation manoeuvres to pursue and eliminate escaping elements of the terrorist group.

“This operation marks one of the most decisive and devastating hits against ISWAP in recent months,” a senior military official was quoted as saying.

He highlighted the seamless coordination between air and ground forces as key to the success of the mission.

The military has continued its offensive against Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds in the North-East, aiming to dismantle remaining insurgent networks and restore lasting peace to the region.
