Tottenham Part Ways With Postecoglou Despite Europa League Glory

In a move that has stunned fans and pundits alike, Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with Head Coach Ange Postecoglou, just weeks after he led the North London club to a historic UEFA Europa League triumph.

The announcement came Thursday morning following what the club described as an “internal review and significant reflection” on performance over the past two seasons.

Postecoglou, who joined from Celtic in 2023, exits the club after guiding them to their first European trophy in over four decades — a dramatic victory in Bilbao that sealed Spurs’ first continental silverware since 1984.

Yet despite that crowning moment, it was Tottenham’s domestic struggles that ultimately proved decisive.

A club statement pointed to a sustained dip in Premier League form, with Spurs registering just 78 points across their last 66 games — a return the board called “deeply concerning.”

“At times there were extenuating circumstances — injuries, a congested fixture list, and the conscious choice to focus on Europe,” the club noted. “But sentiment cannot outweigh sustained underperformance in the league.”

The decision to part company with the Australian coach was unanimous, according to Tottenham’s board, which stated the need for “a reset to enable the club to compete on multiple fronts.”

Postecoglou leaves with his name etched in Spurs folklore, joining club legends Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw as one of only three managers to deliver a European title to the club.

“Ange will always be remembered for bringing silverware back to White Hart Lane. He reconnected the team with the fans and re-established our attacking identity,” the club said. “His impact on our young squad has been profound.”

While a successor is yet to be named, the club has assured supporters that an announcement regarding the new head coach will be made in due course.

Postecoglou has not issued a public statement as of press time.
