President Bola Tinubu on Saturday issued a stern warning to property developers and individuals against erecting buildings or other structures within the designated setbacks along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Speaking during the commissioning of the first 30 kilometres of the highway in the Lekki area of Lagos, the President stressed that any illegal development along the corridor would be demolished without compensation.
“Let me, at this stage, warn all developers: the Federal Government will enforce the setbacks. If not for anything, it is in the interest of our nation,” Tinubu said.
“Development without proper approval will not be compensated if demolished. We have gazetted and published the setbacks, and we will enforce them rigidly, using every legal means available.”

The President also urged motorists and residents to take ownership of the newly inaugurated road, calling for a collective effort in preserving the infrastructure.
“As we celebrate today, let us reflect on our collective responsibility to preserve our infrastructure. The government can build roads, but it is left to us, the citizens, to maintain them.
“Motorists and residents alike are hereby encouraged to utilise this opportunity effectively and responsibly,” he added.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity across Nigeria’s coastal states and enhancing economic growth.
