Tinubu Arives Lagos for ECOWAS at 50 Celebration

President Bola Tinubu is back in Lagos for a significant event, the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

His aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport around 4:15pm on the 27th of May, 2025.

He was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other top government officials.

Tinubu is scheduled to speak at the ECOWAS celebration on the 28th of May, 2025, joining other West African leaders. According to presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga, Yakubu Gowon, the only surviving head of state who signed the ECOWAS declaration, will also give a speech at the event.

Omar Touray, president of the ECOWAS Commission, will deliver the welcome address, while Bolaji Akinyemi, former minister of external affairs, will present a review of the bloc’s 50-year history.

On the 31st of May, Tinubu will commission a series of major infrastructure projects in Lagos. These include Section I of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, the Lekki deep seaport tax credit concrete road, the flag-off of Section II of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, and the 7th Axial Road.

He will also virtually commission additional projects such as the Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II Road and the Yakasai-Zalli Road, while flagging off the Kano Northern By-pass, Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I, Dabai-Kafur Malumfashi, and Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III.

The president will observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the state house, Dodan Barracks, before heading back to Abuja.
