Timileyin Ajayi, accused of killing Salome Adaidu, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of culpable homicide, which carries the death penalty.

Ajayi was arraigned before Justice Simeon Aboki at Lafia’s Court 2 on Monday. Following his plea, the case was adjourned to March 17-20, 2025, for trial.

Stanley Nwaforagu, Officer-in-Charge of Legal at the Nasarawa State Police Command, confirmed the plea and stated that the police are committed to following the case until justice is served.

“We have overwhelming evidence to sustain the charge and we are optimistic that justice will be done,” Nwaforagu added.

Ajayi’s defence counsel, Joseph Tukur, assured the court that he would continue to represent his client. “Today was basically for arraignment. He has entered his plea, and we have taken a date for hearing,” Tukur explained.

He also stressed the importance of the prosecution proving the case beyond reasonable doubt.
