Suspected Herdsmen Attack Naka in Benue, Leave Trail of Death

Terror returned to Benue State late Sunday night as suspected armed herdsmen launched a deadly attack on Tyoshin community in Naka, the administrative headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area, leaving multiple casualties in their wake.

The assailants reportedly struck under the cover of darkness, unleashing violence that residents described as swift and brutal. While the exact number of fatalities remains unconfirmed at the time of filing this report, bodies were said to be seen strewn across parts of the town.

One of the victims was Monday Dooden, a well-known resident of the area. His death sent shockwaves through the community. In a heart-wrenching social media post, his brother, Akawe Francis, wrote: “Monday Dooden, my brother, we ran away from the village because of Fulani attacks to Naka over 10 years ago, but we didn’t escape. Last night you were killed by the same Fulani.”

The violence was not limited to Naka. Earlier on Sunday, a similar attack was reported in Edikwu Ankpali, in Apa Local Government Area, where several others were also feared killed by suspected herdsmen.

What began as a quiet evening across these communities quickly descended into bloodshed, grief, and renewed fears, as residents mourn yet another round of unprovoked violence in a region long plagued by insecurity.
