Super Eagles Hold Russia to 1-1 Draw in International Friendly

The Super Eagles of Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw against Russia in an international friendly on Friday night, continuing their unbeaten run under new head coach, Eric Chelle.

The match, which took place Russia, saw both sides put on a spirited display as they prepare for upcoming competitive fixtures.

Russia drew first blood in the 27th minute following an unfortunate own goal by Nigeria’s defender, Semi Ajayi, who deflected a low cross past goalkeeper Maduka Okoye while trying to clear the ball.

Despite going behind, the Super Eagles grew into the game, pushing forward with more intensity in the second half.

Their persistence paid off in the 71st minute when Tolu Arokodare found the back of the net with a composed finish, via a goalkeeper’s error pass, bringing the game level at 1-1.

Russia, however, looked the more threatening side overall, creating several goal-scoring opportunities.

But it was Nigeria’s shot-stopper, Maduka Okoye, who stood tall with a string of brilliant saves to keep the scoreline even and frustrate the Russians.

With the result, Eric Chelle maintains his unbeaten record since taking charge of the Super Eagles.

The draw also offers positive signs of resilience and defensive improvement for the Nigerian side, who will now shift focus to their upcoming fixtures.

The friendly match served as a valuable test for both nations, especially as Nigeria continues to rebuild and re-strategize under Chelle’s guidance ahead of their next competitive challenge.
