Six members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Delta State in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, May 6, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal party crises as the reason for their decision.
The lawmakers, Reps. Nnamdi Ezechi, Jonathan Ukodiko, Nicholas Mutu, Thomas Ereyitomi, Julius Pondi, and Victor Nwokolo, announced their defection through individual letters read on the floor of the House.
Speaker of the House, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, formally welcomed them to the ruling party.
Rep. Nnamdi Ezechi, who represents Ndokwa East/Ndokwa West/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, said his defection was inspired by the need to support the Delta State governor.

“I had no choice than to join the performing governor of Delta to APC for consolidation of progress,” Ezechi stated.
In a separate development, two Labour Party (LP) members from Enugu State also switched parties, this time to the PDP, blaming ongoing internal issues.
Rep. Chidi Obetta, representing Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency, said he was leaving the Labour Party due to “lingering crisis” within its ranks.
Likewise, Rep. Dennis Agbo, representing Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, resigned from the LP, also citing divisions in the party.
