Shehu Sani Fires Back at El-Rufai Over ‘Illiterates as APC Leaders’ Remark

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has launched a scathing attack on ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over his recent political remarks, calling out what he sees as glaring contradictions in El-Rufai’s stance on governance.

El-Rufai, who spoke at an event in Abuja on the 27th of January, criticized his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for straying from its founding principles and fostering weak leadership.

He declared, “You cannot afford to have illiterates, semi-illiterates, and cunning people as your leaders. This is why we end up with the poor leadership we have today.”

Reacting in a telephone interview on the 28th of January, Sani wasted no time in dismantling El-Rufai’s newfound democratic sermon.

“The man with a history of undisguised intolerance to the opposition and a hypersensitive allergy to criticisms has no moral or saintly authority to stand on the pulpit of democracy to preach about good governance,” he remarked.

Sani painted El-Rufai as a political chameleon, accusing him of demonizing the opposition while in power only to seek solace in their embrace now that he has been cast into the political wilderness. In a biting analogy, he quipped, “El-Rufai’s behavior is like someone bitter over rejection. If Nasir El-Rufai is in a Keke Napep, he will call it a Lamborghini; if he is thrown out of the Lamborghini, he will call it a Keke Napep.”

Taking his criticism further, Sani alleged that El-Rufai’s latest remarks were driven by resentment, claiming that his outburst against the current administration stemmed from its refusal to appoint Professor Nasiru.

“He left behind a heap of garbage in Kaduna and is now preaching hygiene in Nigeria,” Sani concluded.
