RTEAN president applauds PTF for lifting ban on interstate travel

Executive National President of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Comrade Eriyo Osakpamwan, has commended the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 for lifting the ban on interstate travel.

In a statement personally signed by him, Comrade Eriyo said the ban placed on interstate movement in the past weeks had created a lot of hardship for RTEAN members.

While thanking the Federal Government for taking the decision to lift the ban, the RTEAN Boss advised its members across the country to abide strongly by the safety precautions as directed by the NCDC.

The Federal Government on May 4, 2020 banned interstate travels to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The RTEAN boss also commended members of the Association for obeying the directives of the PTF thus far, while warning strongly that drivers should adhere to the rules of 50 percent passenger-capacity of the vehicle.

Eriyo said, “We have also passed out instructions to our state chairmen, unit Executives and park managers to ensure that every person on a journey should wear a face mark. Maintaining of social or physical distancing, provision of water, soap and hand sanitisers in all parks and testing of temperature.

“We sincerely thank the chairman of PTF, Boss Mustapha, who is also Secretary to the Government of the Federation and President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the lifting of interstate ban.

Our members really suffered during this period of interstate ban on travels. We play a crucial role in the transport sub-sector and we appeal to the Federal Government to also provide some palliatives for our members.”

The lifting of the ban on interstate travel will commence on July 1, 2020.
