Nigerian music legend and reggae king Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, has died after a prolonged illness.
Fasheke, who was 57 years old, it was learnt, breathed his last at about 5:45pm on Monday in a New York, US hospital.
His longtime manager, Umenka Uzoma, announced the musician’s demise on Tuesday.
Uzoma said, “Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker.
“Let’s celebrate him, his achievements, and his family. Whatever decisions made by his immediate family, will be notified.”
Fashek had been ill for years. In 2019, was down with an illness and was admitted at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, England.
Since his discharge from the hospital, he had been checking in for therapy in a New York hospital.
The musician and entertainer was one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports in the late 1980s and the early 1990s.
