NATO leaders have issued a stern warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, insisting that he must meet a strict deadline for a ceasefire in Ukraine or face serious repercussions.
Speaking in Brussels on the 4th of April, 2025, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly emphasized the need for consequences if Russia fails to agree to the ceasefire proposal.
Joly is currently in Brussels, where she is engaging with her NATO counterparts to address the escalating conflict.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna further underlined the importance of establishing clear “red lines” for a ceasefire timetable.
“Putin is demanding more, but it’s not just about Ukraine. He continues to add new conditions. There must be clear limits on the timetable,” Tsahkna said.
This development follows a revelation from a senior NATO official, who disclosed that Russia has endured roughly 900,000 casualties since the war’s onset in February 2022, according to the German press agency DPA.
The British Ministry of Defence also reported in its latest intelligence update that up to 250,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since Putin‘s invasion of Ukraine began.
