Police Rescue Man Accused of Stepdaughter’s Assault in Bauchi

Swift intervention by operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command’s “Operation Restore Peace” unit on Friday, May 31, 2025, prevented a 37-year-old man from being subjected to mob justice after he was accused of serially sexually assaulting his 15-year-old stepdaughter.

The suspect, identified as Wisdom Benoie, is now in police custody, facing serious charges.

According to a press release issued Monday by Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, the incident unfolded in Yalwan Tsakani when a group of local youths confronted Benoie, suspecting him of the heinous acts.

The victim, referred to as Joy (not her real name), had reportedly confided in neighbors after enduring repeated assaults by her stepfather, prompting a coordinated intervention by the community.

“The matter came to light after the victim’s father reported the incident to the ORP unit in the Yalwan Tsakani area of Bauchi,” Wakil stated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Benoie, married to the victim’s mother, allegedly entered the teenager’s room on multiple occasions while her mother was asleep, engaging in non-consensual acts.

The victim, who had reportedly suffered in silence, found the courage to speak out, leading to the dramatic confrontation.

Officers led by CSP Kim Abert arrived at the scene just as the situation threatened to escalate into a full-blown mob action, successfully extracting Benoie from the enraged crowd. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the alleged offences.

The young victim has since been taken to a medical facility for examination and care.

Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough and discreet investigation. Following the completion of the inquiry, Benoie is expected to be charged in court for prosecution.
