The Abia State Police Command has responded to a viral social media outcry by one Mrs. Chioma Chikadibia, who alleged that her husband, Mr. Sunday Chikadibia, and their three daughters were unlawfully detained by law enforcement authorities.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the police clarified that the individuals in question were not being held unlawfully but were arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into a serious criminal matter involving alleged kidnapping and murder.
“Following a thorough investigation, the suspects were formally charged in court and subsequently remanded at a Correctional Centre, in accordance with the order of a competent court,” the statement read.
The police dismissed the claims made by Mrs. Chioma Chikadibia as “untrue and misleading,” warning the public against circulating false narratives that may obstruct justice or paint security agencies in a bad light.

Commenting further, the Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, cautioned the public against shielding individuals linked to criminal activities. “Harbouring or attempting to conceal suspects from law enforcement is a punishable offence under Nigerian law.
We urge citizens to cooperate with ongoing investigations and allow the justice system to run its course,” he stated.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to transparency and due process while assuring the public that every suspect’s rights are being upheld in accordance with legal provisions.
