Police Nab Three Robbery Suspects in Anambra, Recover Stolen Cars, Firearm

The Anambra State Police Command has scored a major win in its fight against armed robbery with the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of stolen vehicles and a firearm.

Spokesperson for the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Monday.

According to Ikenga, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) based in Awkuzu apprehended the suspects on May 30 at Agukwu-Nri, a community in Anaocha Local Government Area.

The operation, he said, was made possible through actionable intelligence obtained from a suspect already in custody.

Those arrested have been identified as Monday Onoja, Sanusi Muhammed, and Kenneth Nwokpu—men between the ages of 27 and 32.

Recovered from the suspects were two high-end vehicles: a white Mercedes Benz C300 4MATIC with registration number KWC 140 and an ash-coloured Lexus 350 with registration number 669 CY. Two exotic mobile phones and a pump-action rifle were also seized during the operation.

Ikenga emphasized that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, assuring the public of the Command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements.

“Investigations are still ongoing, and we are expanding our net to track down other gang members who are still at large,” Ikenga said. “We also urge residents to support the police with credible information that can aid our efforts.”

The police spokesperson noted that the arrest underlines the proactive strategies employed by the Anambra State Police Command to stamp out crime in the state.

Security experts and community leaders have since lauded the operation, describing it as a significant stride towards restoring peace and safety across Anambra.
