The Nigerian Police Force has arrested a syndicate involved in supplying motorcycles to Boko Haram terrorists in Niger and Kaduna states.

Motorcycles are commonly used by terrorists in Northern Nigeria for kidnappings and attacks on communities.

On Tuesday, Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 7, Benneth Igweh, briefed newsmen in Abuja, stating that the arrests followed credible intelligence.

The suspects, identified as Shamsuddeen Yunusa, 30; Zaharadeen Saidu, 25; and Mustapha Haruna, 22, were apprehended in Suleja Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State.

The police recovered 22 motorcycles, multiple master keys, and stolen phones from the suspects.

Igweh explained that the syndicate specialized in the trade and modification of stolen motorcycles, which they sold or rented to criminals, including Boko Haram operatives in Niger and Kaduna States.

“The syndicate specializes in buying and selling stolen motorcycles in Suleja, Niger State. They further sell or hire these motorcycles to criminals believed to be Boko Haram elements terrorizing parts of Niger State and Birnin Gwari LGA, Kaduna State,” Igweh said.

He added, “The leader of the gang, Shamsuddeen, revealed that he sells the motorcycles at the rate of ₦200,000 to ₦250,000.

“He further added that he recently received ₦250,000 from one Ibrahim Kabiru, who resides in Birnin Gwari LGA, Kaduna State, as part payment for the supply of Bajaj motorcycles.”

Zaharadeen Saidu acted as the courier, delivering motorcycles to buyers, while Mustapha Haruna, the mechanic, fixed the stolen motorcycles before delivery.
