Plateau’s Ex-Deputy Gov, Sonni Tyoden, Passes Away

The former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, has passed away.

This heartbreaking news was confirmed by the state’s ex-governor, Simon Lalong, who visited the late Tyoden’s home in Jos on the 4th of May, 2025, to express his condolences.

Lalong paid tribute to his former deputy, calling him a dependable political partner.

He described Tyoden as not just a confidante, but also a teacher and mentor, whose influence shaped many lives.

The ex-governor highlighted Tyoden’s vital role in stabilizing the previous administration.

“He provided crucial stability, wisdom, and invaluable experience,” Lalong said. “His tireless efforts were instrumental in ensuring the success of our eight-year tenure.”

Tyoden, aged 74, passed away following a brief illness. A distinguished professor of political science, he had also served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos.
