Several supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State.
Governor Umar Namadi expressed his delight at the growing support for the APC during the 6th edition of the Government and Citizens Engagement programme held on Sunday, April 27, in Buji Local Government Area.
The Government and Citizens Engagement platform is aimed at fostering dialogue between citizens and government officials, allowing for the exchange of concerns, achievements, and plans.
“We are happy to welcome our new members to the APC family,” Namadi said. “This defection is a testament to the good work we are doing in Jigawa State, and we will continue to work towards the development of our state.”
The governor reassured the new members that they would be treated fairly, ensuring their voices would be heard and respected within the party. “Your voices will continue to be heard, respected, and valued,” Namadi added.

He promised inclusivity and a commitment to equity for all party members, urging the defectors to support his administration with constructive advice and to share the APC’s vision with their communities.
“The coming of these new members will help build a stronger, more united party,” Namadi said, stressing that the APC needed their support and counsel to drive Jigawa’s development agenda.
Idris Maikura, leading the defectors from Unguwar Maina, Chirbun ward, explained the decision to join the APC, stating, “We have seen the good work being done by Governor Umar Namadi, and we believe that the APC is the best platform to achieve our development goals. We are confident that the APC will take Jigawa State to the next level.”
The defection has drawn reactions from different quarters. PDP State Chairman Ali Diginsa expressed disappointment over the move, claiming the defectors had abandoned the party for personal gain.
“We are not surprised, but we are disappointed. These individuals have abandoned the PDP for personal gains, and we will not miss them,” Diginsa said when contacted.
