Osimhen Takes Legal Action Against Journalist Over Assault Claim

Nigerian and Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, has filed a lawsuit against a Turkish journalist who accused him of assault.

This was revealed on Sunday by Osimhen’s close friend and radio personality, Onokala Onyebuchi, popularly known as ‘Buchi Laba,’ in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“Victor Osimhen has officially sued the journalist that accused the Nigerian international of hitting him. The case officially will start in court tomorrow,” Buchi wrote.

According to Buchi, the alleged incident occurred when Osimhen went to an African restaurant with close friends, not a club as claimed.

He stated that the reporters ambushed the football star with cameras, prompting Osimhen to request that they respect his privacy.

“He never hit them. Why spoil his name?” Buchi asked. “Victor told them if they wanted an interview, they should have asked. He was shocked at their behavior.”

Osimhen, in a video statement posted on X, also refuted the allegations, providing a detailed account of the incident.

“I went to eat with my friends, and as I was coming back to go into my van, these guys just popped out from nowhere with a camera in my face, and I was shocked,” Osimhen said. “I never punched or hit anyone. I simply asked them to delete my picture because it’s my right.”

The Super Eagles striker alleged that the journalist fabricated the assault story, suggesting it was part of a larger agenda, possibly tied to the intense rivalry between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in Turkish football.

Osimhen added, “This is a case of violence, and he [the journalist] came out to lie. If I hit him, he will get justice. If he lied, he will face the wrath of the law.”

The controversy comes just days after Osimhen scored the decisive penalty in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday.

The legal battle is expected to begin Monday, as Osimhen seeks to clear his name and hold the journalist accountable for what he describes as a baseless and damaging accusation.
