Ondo Assembly Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader Resign

 

There’s been a shake-up in the Ondo State House of Assembly, as two top lawmakers have stepped down from their leadership positions.

Deputy Speaker Abayomi Akinruntan and Majority Leader Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi announced their resignations on Tuesday, June 3, during a plenary session led by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji.

Both men are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress. Akinruntan represents Ilaje Constituency 1, while Ogunmolasuyi represents Owo Constituency 1.

Explaining his decision, Akinruntan pointed to ongoing political power-sharing arrangements within the state, though he gave no further details.

In a swift transition, Ololade Gbegudu, who represents Okitipupa Constituency 2, was appointed as the new Deputy Speaker. Olatunji Oshati of Ose State Constituency has now taken over as Majority Leader.

The resignations mark a significant shift in the Assembly’s leadership, though the House did not disclose whether further changes are expected.
