Ohanaeze Ndigbo Commends Enugu Gov for Ending Monday Sit-at-Home Era

The Enugu State chapter of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has praised Governor Peter Mbah’s administration for effectively putting an end to the era of “unknown gunmen” and permanently halting the dreaded Monday sit-at-home order.

In a statement released on January 26, 2025, and signed by Dr. Okey Adenyi (President) and Rt. Hon. Bonaventure Onuh (Secretary), the group commended Governor Mbah’s decisive leadership and unwavering stance against lawlessness, which he demonstrated through one of his first executive orders.

Mondays, once marred by fear and inactivity, now reflect the vibrant hustle and bustle of a thriving state.

The organization also dismissed recent claims by the Ohanaeze Youths Council urging Governor Mbah to prioritize security, describing such remarks as baseless and aimed at seeking attention.

“For clarity,” the statement read, “prior to Governor Mbah’s administration, ‘unknown gunmen’ unleashed terror across the state, arbitrarily enforcing Monday sit-at-home orders with devastating socio-economic consequences. However, under Governor Mbah’s leadership and with the support of security agencies, this menace has been eradicated. The people of Enugu now enjoy their constitutional right to freedom of movement without fear or harassment.”

The statement also highlighted significant strides in improving security across the state, including the installation of high-powered CCTV cameras, a modern Command and Control Centre, and the deployment of 150 patrol vehicles equipped with AI-powered surveillance cameras.

“Governor Mbah has set a new standard for security in the state,” the group affirmed.

Addressing allegations that South-East governors were sabotaging efforts to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the group defended Governor Mbah’s role as a strong advocate for Kanu’s release. They noted his collaborative efforts with other South-East governors and his emphasis on engaging the federal government, as expressed during the recent Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide election of National Executives.

The group criticized the Ohanaeze Youths Council for undermining these efforts, urging youths to redirect their energy toward meaningful activities. “The energy wasted on unfounded allegations could be better used to improve lives and build a better society,” the statement concluded.
