Obaseki’s defection not surprising, he left us days ago – APC

All Progressives Congress has said Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, stopped being a member of the ruling party some days ago.

APC said the Edo governor had since resigned his membership of the party, which had been accepted.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, stated this while reacting to the news of Obaseki’s defection to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

According to Issa-Onilu, “It has not come to us as a surprise. We knew he had defected long ago because he resigned his membership of the party, which we have accepted. So, you can’t defect twice.

“So, if he is defecting again, we don’t know whether what he has just done now is news any longer.”

Obaseki was disqualified from contesting the APC governorship primary in Edo due to alleged discrepancies in his credentials.

He resigned his membership of the ruling APC and declared he would take a decision on his new platform within a few days.

The embattled Edo governor then held a series of meetings with PDP governors and other party stakeholders.

On Friday, Obaseki officially joined the PDP Edo State.
