OAP Lolo: Sex Workers Undervaluing the Power of Hard Work

Omotunde Adebowale-David, better known as Lolo 1, a prominent Nigerian media personality, has voiced her concerns about the impact of sex work on society’s values.

In a candid discussion on the Say My Piece podcast, she pointed out how the openness of sex workers regarding their profession reflects a troubling shift in societal morals.

Lolo 1 emphasized that she constantly encourages women to refrain from viewing their bodies as mere commodities.

She expressed frustration over how sex workers openly boast about their earnings, with some claiming they bought expensive assets like cars and houses from their trade.

She questioned the message this sends to the average person, stating, “When you hear that someone got a house or a car through sex work, how do you think the average person will view their own hard work?”

In her view, this trend undermines the value of legitimate, honest labor. “Sex workers are downplaying the significance of putting in effort, of building something from the ground up. I always remind the women around me that your body is not a marketplace,” she added.

The actress also reflected on the changing times, admitting that her mindset may stem from an older generation’s values. Still, she couldn’t help but feel disturbed by the growing normalcy of prostitution, even pondering if society has completely abandoned its sense of shame. “If this is now what people are proud to do for money, maybe it’s time we recognize it as a legitimate profession,” she concluded.
