Nigeria’s debt profile rises to N28.63tn

Debt Management Office says Nigeria’s total public debt portfolio has risen to N28.63trillion.

DMO, in its Public Debt Portfolio report released on Thursday night, disclosed that Nigeria’s total debt rose from the N27.4trillion recorded in December 2019 to N28.63trillion in March 2020.

This indicates that within a space of three months, Nigeria’s public debt portfolio rose by N1.23trillion, representing 4.48 per cent.

DMO also stated that the country’s total external debt obligations as of the end of March 2020 stood at N9.99trillion.

The N9.99trilion is about N970billion higher than N9.02trillion recorded as external debt obligations in December 2020.

DMO added that Nigeria’s domestic debt was N18.64trillion, representing 65.11 per cent of the country’s debt stock.
