The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, has raised alarm over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, warning that the country is already knee-deep in crisis, with bandits and insurgents now part of daily life in many communities.
Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, May 31, at the 60th birthday celebration of former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, Sanusi expressed deep concern about the scale of insecurity and the complacency around it.
“For all those cautioning that we should be careful before entering a crisis, please wake up,” Sanusi said.
“We are living with bandits and Boko Haram; we are already there. We are already in crisis; it has already happened. The question is how do we get out of it.”

The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor also blamed Nigeria’s growing poverty on the failure of leadership, saying the country’s elites are largely disconnected from the struggles of ordinary citizens.
Sanusi’s remarks echoed his long-standing warnings about the consequences of neglecting the country’s poorest and most vulnerable.
Over the years, he has repeatedly sounded the alarm about growing violence in the North and the disconnect between government policies and the reality on the ground.
At Saturday’s event, he called for honest conversations and urgent action, warning that Nigeria’s survival depends on its willingness to face the truth and act accordingly.
