Nigeria Would Be in Worse Shape Without Prayer — Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has emphasized the vital role of prayer in sustaining Nigeria, warning that without spiritual intervention, the country would be in a far worse condition.

Speaking on Sunday during the RCCG’s monthly Thanksgiving service and special prayers for security and paramilitary personnel at the church’s national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Adeboye addressed skepticism surrounding the effectiveness of prayer.

“Some say, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting — where is the result?’ I laugh,” he said.

“If we had not prayed, Nigeria would have been in a far worse state. Let’s not stop.”

Adeboye also asserted that RCCG is under divine protection, a supernatural covering that he believes has shielded the church from disaster since its inception.

Preaching on the theme “Shadow of the Almighty,” he cited several events he described as evidence of God’s protection over the church and its members.

“There is a God who rules in the affairs of men,” he said. “If those praying were to stop for just one week, the difference would be terrifying. Keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings.”

He shared a testimony from the United States, where a building that hosts an RCCG house fellowship was the only one out of 15 on a street spared during a flood.

“House number eight, the only one marked with ‘House Fellowship of RCCG held here’ remained untouched,” he said.

Adeboye also referenced a fire incident in March near Otedola Bridge in Lagos, where flames destroyed multiple buildings except for an RCCG facility.

“The structures before and after it were razed, but the RCCG building stood untouched. That is not coincidence — that is divine covering,” he told the congregation as the church’s media team projected an image of the scene.

While acknowledging that God’s protection is not always visible, Adeboye insisted it is constant and powerful for those who put their trust in Him.

“Your security is only assured in Him,” he said. “Whether in peace or war, young or old, the Almighty casts a shadow of protection over His own.”

In the service, Pastor Folu Adeboye led prayers for national peace and for Nigeria’s leaders.

“Let’s ask God to show our president mercy and give him peace so that he may enjoy his time in office,” she prayed.
