Governor Mohammed Bago has announced a ₦1 billion donation to support victims of the recent devastating flood in Mokwa, Niger State.
During a visit to the affected communities on Monday, June 9, the governor saw firsthand the destruction left in the flood’s wake, homes flattened, families displaced, and lives upended.
Moved by the scale of the damage, Bago said, “The Niger State government is donating one billion naira to the victims of the flood disaster.
“All cash and materials donated by the federal government, kind-hearted individuals, government agencies, as well as donor agencies, will be used for the purpose they were intended.”
He offered his sympathies to those affected and urged residents to avoid settling near waterways to prevent future tragedies.

The governor also commended the generosity of individuals, organisations, and agencies that had already stepped in to offer help.
He assured victims that the state would take steps to resettle everyone impacted, both directly and indirectly.
Bago took a moment to speak directly to Islamic teachers in the community, urging them to document all children under their care to ensure they can be easily accounted for in case of emergencies.
“We’re committed to making sure support reaches those who truly need it,” he said. “This is not just about rebuilding structures, but about restoring lives.”
