Musk Slams Trump’s Spending Bill as ‘Disgusting Abomination’

Tech mogul Elon Musk has launched a scathing attack on President Donald Trump’s proposed federal spending bill, describing it as an “outrageous, pork-filled, disgusting abomination” that threatens the fiscal stability of the United States.

Musk’s criticism comes just days after his resignation from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he served as a special government employee for 130 days. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, the billionaire entrepreneur decried the bill’s projected impact on the national deficit and public debt.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk wrote.

“This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

He warned that the bill would balloon the federal budget deficit to $2.5 trillion and saddle American citizens with “crushingly unsustainable debt.”

The controversial legislation, currently under debate in the Senate, proposes sweeping tax cuts alongside significant spending increases on military expansion, border security, and domestic oil production. It also outlines sharp reductions to Medicaid and food assistance programs.

Analysts from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimate that the bill could add $3.8 trillion to the national debt over the next ten years. They further warn that the financial benefits would disproportionately favor the wealthiest Americans while undercutting support for low-income families.

At a recent event, Musk reiterated his opposition, saying, “I was, like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, doesn’t decrease it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing. I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful. But I don’t know if it can be both.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to Musk’s remarks, maintaining the administration’s firm backing for the legislation.

“The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change the president’s opinion. This is one big beautiful bill and he’s sticking to it,” she said.

The proposed bill includes $1.5 trillion in spending cuts tied to $4.5 billion in tax reductions, with a provision to scale back tax benefits should the spending cuts fall short.

As the political and economic debate intensifies, Musk’s public dissent marks one of the most forceful critiques yet from a former government insider and influential business figure.
