Meranda Resigns as Lagos Assembly Speaker, Becomes Deputy

Mojisola Meranda has stepped down as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, paving the way for the reinstatement of Mudashiru Obasa.

At a special plenary on Monday, March 3, Meranda formally announced her resignation, reading aloud her letter. “This is a notice of resignation as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly,” she stated.

Meranda assumed office on January 13, 2025, after lawmakers removed Obasa from the position. However, her tenure was short-lived as she resigned alongside all principal officers who were appointed with her.

She explained that her decision was to “protect the institution of the Assembly.”
