With only two points separating them and fourth place Chelsea following a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hortspur Friday evening in a week 30 EPL match, Manchester United have a step closer on a Uefa Champions League spot.
Steven Bergwijn opened the scoring against the run of play for Tottenham on the 27th minute while Bruno Fernandes, the Portueguese international, equalised with 10 minutes to go, after Paul Pogba won a penalty.
It was the first game for both teams since the EPL was suspended on March 4, 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak worldwide.
United was by far the better team with a dominant 63 percent ball possession, but it was Tottenham Hotspur that broke the deadlock.
Tottenham keeper, Hugo Loris, had a good game to keep the score line low, forcing many saves, but he couldn’t stop Fernades from converting from the spot.
Nigerian international, Odion Ighalo, was introduced late into the match, but he couldn’t add to the tally when he came in for injured Marcus Rashford.
Ighalo, who recently had an extended loan deal with Manchester United, is expected to have more game time as the season tees to an end.
The match was watched in an empty stadium following precautionary measures adopted by the EPL to check the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
