Lagos Govt Closes Oshodi Pedestrian Bridge Over Safety Concerns

The Lagos State Government has announced the immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge connecting Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3, citing concerns over its safety and structural integrity.

This directive was issued on Friday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, through an official statement.

Osiyemi emphasized that the decision was taken to safeguard the lives of pedestrians who rely on the bridge daily.

“The order, in addition, mandated the contractor that handled the initial construction of the terminal, through the Office of Infrastructure, to place concrete barriers at the entrances leading to the bridge. This is to safeguard lives of pedestrians who use the infrastructure,” Osiyemi stated.

The commissioner further explained that the closure was necessary to enable a comprehensive structural integrity assessment of the bridge, which would inform potential repairs or reconstruction work.

In the interim, pedestrians have been advised to use an alternative pedestrian bridge located just 30 meters away while the evaluation is conducted.

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its residents, urging citizens to comply with the directive for their own safety.

The Oshodi Bus Terminal is a major transportation hub in Lagos, serving thousands of commuters daily, making the integrity of its infrastructure a matter of critical importance.
