The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Princess Mojisola Meranda, may be removed from office as political stakeholders push for a leadership change.
Reports indicate that either Mr. David Setonji or Mr. Wale Rauf could replace her.
Key political figures, including former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and Chief Pius Akinyelure, Chairman of the NNPC Board, have intervened in the ongoing crisis.
Their involvement suggests efforts to resolve internal disputes within the Assembly.
Meranda, who became the first female Speaker on January 13 following the removal of Mudashiru Obasa, now faces uncertainty over her tenure.
Obasa was dismissed over allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and misconduct but has since challenged his removal in court, arguing due process was not followed.
Sources confirm that a closed-door meeting was held over the weekend involving political leaders and Assembly members.
Further discussions are expected to determine the way forward.
There are indications that Meranda may be asked to return to her previous role as Deputy Speaker, with either Setonji (Badagry 2) or Rauf (Amuwo Odofin 2) taking over as Speaker.

Setonji, the current Chief Whip, has been in the Assembly since 2015, while Rauf has served since 2019.
The proposed leadership change is reportedly aimed at addressing regional political balance.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Speaker Meranda are both from Lagos Central, while Lagos West currently lacks representation in key positions.
With Obasa hailing from Lagos West, stakeholders argue that his replacement should also come from the district.
Despite these developments, 36 out of 40 lawmakers recently passed a vote of confidence in Meranda on February 17, signalling support for her continued leadership.
However, the Assembly has adjourned indefinitely, leaving room for further negotiations and possible leadership changes.
