Labour Party Reacts to Supreme Court Ruling, Affirms Julius Abure’s Leadership

The Labour Party (LP) has hailed the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday as a validation of Julius Abure’s leadership as the party’s national chairman.

The judgment, which addressed internal party leadership matters, affirmed that the selection of party leaders falls solely within the jurisdiction of the political parties, not the courts.

Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary of the LP, emphasized that the decision confirms Abure’s position as the legitimate national chairman.

Speaking on the verdict, Ifoh highlighted the Court’s stance, which struck out the suits filed by former senator Nenadi Usman and others, reaffirming that the courts have no authority over the internal affairs of political parties.

“Supreme Court strikes out Nenadi, Abure suits, says only Political Parties can determine who their leaders are,” Ifoh posted on the party’s official X (formerly Twitter) page.

The Supreme Court had upheld the appeal filed by Usman and others, stating that the case had merit. However, it dismissed the cross-appeal from the faction led by Abure, ruling that it lacked merit.

With the ruling, Abure remains at the helm of the LP, and the party is poised to continue its internal operations without judicial interference.
