Kidnappers who abducted a Chinese expatriate, Mr. Sam Xie Wie, and his Nigerian colleague, Mr. David Adenaiye, in Kwara State have demanded ₦1 billion for their release.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, revealed this on Friday, June 6, via a post on X, stating that the abductors used the victims’ mobile phones to contact an associate, Mr. Leo Liang, to make their demand.
First News reported that the two men were taken on Wednesday during a deadly attack on a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The ambush, which occurred around 6:30 pm, also led to the killing of two Police Mobile Force officers assigned to protect the victims.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident in a statement issued Thursday by its spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo.
“The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police confirms a deadly attack and abduction incident that occurred on 4th June, 2025, at about 1830hrs. This heinous act was done at a mining site located in Oreke-Okeigbo of the state,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

She explained that the victims of the fatal shooting were ASP Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both attached to 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja.
“Information received from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Oreke indicates that a group of unidentified armed assailants invaded the said mining facility, where they tragically shot and killed two operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, ASP Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both attached to 45 PMF, Abuja, who were on official protective assignment at the location. The attackers also carted away the rifles of the deceased officers,” she said.
She further confirmed the identities of the abducted workers as “Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a native of Kogi State who was working at the mining site at the time of the incident.”
Meanwhile, security operatives and local vigilante groups are said to be working tirelessly to locate and rescue the victims unharmed.
