Kano Sports Tragedy: Ogun Reaches Out to Families of Late Athletes

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has taken a bold step to show compassion after the devastating loss of 22 athletes from Kano State.

He sent a team, led by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, to personally deliver condolences to the Kano State Government.

The athletes and officials had died in a tragic road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Ogun.

Each affected family received a donation of ₦1 million from the Ogun delegation. The team also visited some of the injured survivors and offered prayers for their recovery, as well as for the peaceful rest of those who died.

Other members of the delegation included Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi; Commissioner for Sports, Wasiu Isiaka; and Executive Secretary of the Festival’s Local Organising Committee, Dr. Kweku Tandoh.

They were warmly received in Kano by Deputy Governor Aminu AbdulSalam Gwarzo, who expressed gratitude for the visit. He also mentioned that Governor Abiodun had earlier called to share his sympathies.
