President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Sunday, formally reconciled with Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, declaring that he was no longer angry with the governor following recent tensions between the two.
This dramatic thaw in relations took place during a high-level meeting at the President’s Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, with members of the influential Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in attendance.
The GAC, led by its chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, had visited President Tinubu to mediate and plead on behalf of Sanwo-Olu and others perceived to have fallen out of favour with the President.
According to sources who spoke to ThisDay, the meeting was called specifically to mend fences amid mounting speculation of a rift between the President and the Lagos governor, following Sanwo-Olu’s conspicuous absence from recent presidential events in the state and the controversy surrounding the temporary removal of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
Addressing the President during the meeting, Olusi said he was aware that Tinubu had been displeased with “certain individuals” in Lagos, including the governor, and made a personal appeal for forgiveness.
In response, President Tinubu reportedly said: “It’s all over now. All is forgiven.”

He further assured the GAC members that he held no lingering grudges against anyone in the room, including Governor Sanwo-Olu.
Moved by the President’s words, Sanwo-Olu and other members of the GAC reportedly prostrated before Tinubu in a traditional Yoruba gesture of remorse and reconciliation.
The symbolic act, witnessed by several powerbrokers in Lagos politics, marked the end of weeks of behind-the-scenes political tension and rumours of a major fallout between Tinubu and key figures in the state.
Political analysts say the reconciliation signals a return to stability within Lagos APC ahead of future electoral contests and national political realignments.
