I’m not behind social media insults on Buhari, Oshiomhole – Benin monarch

Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, says he did not ask anyone to insult President Muhamadu Buhari; sacked National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole and Captain Hosa Okunbor.

The Benin monarch blamed mischief makers for the insult on Buhari and two other illustrious sons of Edo State, currently trending on social media.

Oba Ewuare II was responding to a recent video on social media anchored by one Eranomigho Edegbe, who claimed that he had the authority of the Benin monarch to hurl insults on President Buhari and few other individuals.

But the monarch, in a statement by the Secretary, Benin Traditional Council, Mr Frank Irabor, said, “We condemn in strong terms the malicious attacks on the integrity of President Buhari and other persons whom the video seek to malign.

“For the purpose of clarification and to set the record straight, Oba of Benin wish to make it categorically and irrevocably clear that the said video and contents therein were not commissioned nor was it encouraged by the Oba.”

The statement added that Oshiomhole and Okunbor, who have been adopted by the palace of the Oba, have not only respected the culture and traditions of the land, but meaningfully contributed to the wellbeing of the state.

It said that Eranomigho must tender an unreserved apology to the monarch to avert consequences, warning that an ancestral curse dangles on anyone who attempts to tarnish to tarnish the image of Benin and the ancient throne of the Benin kingdom.
