A violent clash erupted on Wednesday at the 79th Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as supporters of National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and his rival, Hon. Sunday Ude-Okoye, engaged in a brawl.

Tensions flared when Anyanwu’s loyalists objected to Ude-Okoye’s presence in the NEC Hall, arguing he was not a board member.

They alerted the Ahmed Makarfi-led BoT Secretariat, demanding his removal.

One of Anyanwu’s aides, Emmanuel Okoronkwo, physically dragged Ude-Okoye out of the hall.

Outnumbered, Ude-Okoye called on his supporters outside, some of whom attempted to scale the fence but were stopped by armed security operatives.

Despite the disruption, security personnel managed to contain the situation, allowing the meeting to proceed.

Before the scuffle, Anyanwu had taken a seat on the high table alongside BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara and PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum.

Ude-Okoye arrived later, dressed in a blue national outfit and red cap, and sat at the far end of the table, staying through the opening ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Wabara urged members to prioritise rebuilding the party over personal interests.

Damagum echoed this, blaming party leaders for fuelling internal conflicts and calling for sacrifices to secure the PDP’s future.

As of 1:35 pm, three Army pickup trucks had arrived at the Secretariat, while the BoT meeting continued.
