IGP orders Ondo police commissioner to restore deputy gov’s security detail

Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Monday, ordered the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Bolaji Salami, to immediately restore the security details of the state’s Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.

IGP’s directive was contained in a memo addressed to the Ondo police commissioner through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja.

The Ondo deputy governor’s security details were withdrawn following his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Last week, Ajayi raised the alarm that he and his family had been exposed to danger due to the withdrawal of policemen attached to his office by the Ondo Commissioner of Police.

The IGP’s memo directing the Ondo police commissioner to restore the deputy governor’s security details has Ref. No CB: 2002/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL/77/168 and was signed on behalf of the IGP by Austine Agbonlahor, Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

The deputy governor and the Ondo police commissioner had been at loggerheads with Ajayi accusing Salami of working on the instructions of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Ajayi had engaged in a confrontation with the police at the Government House following the alleged refusal of the police commissioner to allow him to leave the premises allegedly on the orders of the governor.
