The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed he once broke down in tears after replaying old speeches by suspended Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Wike, who made the disclosure during his monthly press briefing in Abuja on Monday, June 2, said Fubara’s words in those speeches made him reflect on how far their relationship had deteriorated.
“When I go back in my quiet moments, I play the video of speeches of the governor (Fubara), what he said; what he did to me; I weep,” Wike said.
“Was it necessary? This was somebody who brought you, gave you food, gave you everything, did this for you, and then you became a tool for his enemies to fight him.”

The former Rivers State governor said he had backed Fubara’s emergence as his successor despite internal resistance from political actors in the state. However, their alliance collapsed soon after Fubara took office in 2023.
The power struggle between the two paralysed governance in the state and led to a six-month political emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu, during which Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state assembly were suspended.
A sole administrator was appointed to run the state during that period.
Hints of reconciliation began recently when Fubara visited Wike privately in Abuja.
