Gunmen attack Taraba village, kill one, injure three others

Ahead of Tuesday’s local government council election in Taraba State, gunmen suspected to be Jukun militia attacked Afogba village in Donga Local Government Area of the state.

Residents said during the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, one person died and three others were injured.

A witness, Mr. Livinus Akaa, said, “They came from the Tunari axis and invaded our community. Fortunately, we got wind of their coming and many people fled.

“The person killed ran into them because it was still dark and he was slaughtered. Three others sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.”

State Police Public Relations Officer, David Misal, however, said he had yet to get the report of the attack on the village.

Since April 1, 2019, Jukun and Tiv ethnic groups in Taraba have been engaged violent clashes in the southern part of the state.

The violence has now escalated and spread to Bali and Gassol Local Government Areas in the central zone.
